Stretching away from the lake is a large forest where most cats hunt and make their dens. The trees are young and undergrowth is sparse, but in the warm seasons there is good hunting here.

Near the lakeshore, there is a wide grassy space where the cats gather. The Casting of the Stones takes place here when there is a decision to be made, or a new leader needs to be chosen.

A pebbly beach surrounds the edge of the lake. Cats come here to sun themselves on larger rocks and to fish in the lake. Debris such as pieces of driftwood get washed up onto the beach too, so once in a while you might find something unusual.

There is a stream that flows down the edge of the forest and empties into the lake. Thick clumps of healing herbs grow along its banks for all the cats to use, and if you follow it away from the lake it will lead you to the Pool of Stars.

Deep in the forest, there is a pool of water as round as the full moon. Its surface shimmers with starshine, and it is known to all the cats as a very special and mystical place.

Beyond the stream, there is a stretch of grassy moorland. Strong winds whip across it, and there are no trees or bushes for shelter. If a cat is fast enough they might catch a rabbit here, and the top of the hill provides an amazing view of the lake and forest.

Small entrances to the underground tunnels are scattered across the forest and moorland. Cats only go into them when they become sharpclaws, but if you are curious enough to break the rules, be careful not to get lost in the dark passages.
